Benjamin Bishop is an Australian-born, stage and screen actor living in Berlin, Germany. He completed his acting training at dBs Berlin in 2018. During his time at dBs Ben has appeared in over 20 student produced films, commercials and documentaries. Ben has most recently starred on stage as Richard in Rosebrook Theatre Collectives "MDMA", directed by Sarah Wilkinson.

Brea Robertson is a singer/songwriter and theatre worker from Australia. Brea has spent time working in prisons, schools and Indigenous festivals using theatre and music as a tool for education and rehabilitation. She now lives in Berlin and enjoys using the arts to teach English. When she's not working with InterACT, Brea is usually traveling around Europe singing her songs in people's living rooms, gardens or at festivals.

1. Hey InterACT! Why Online Courses?

We’re a non-profit organization that teaches English through the arts. For ten years we’ve been bringing English native speakers to schools across Germany to work with young people on language and creative projects. We made these courses as a way to continue bringing our curriculum to English learners, like you even in the times we can't visit your school.

Hey InterACT! Warum Online-Kurse? 

Wir sind eine gemeinnützige Organisation, die Englisch mithilfe eines künstlerischen Ansatzes lehrt. Seit zehn Jahren bringen wir englische Muttersprachler*innen an Schulen in ganz Deutschland, um mit jungen Menschen an Sprach- und Kreativprojekten zu arbeiten. Wir haben diese Kurse eingerichtet, um unseren Lehrplan auch weiterhin Englischlernenden wie Ihnen (oder Ihrem Kind) zugänglich zu machen.

2. How does the online course work?

The course is built as a series of reading blocks, tutorial videos, review, tasks and a resource section. For your final assignment, you will use the skills you learn to make your own film or write a short story in English.

Wie funktioniert der Online-Kurs? 

Der Kurs ist als eine Reihe von Leseeinheiten, Tutorial-Videos, Übungseinheiten, Aufgaben und einem Abschnitt mit weiterführenden Ressourcen aufgebaut. Für die finale Aufgabe werden die erlernten Fähigkeiten angewandt, um einen eigenen Film zu drehen oder eine Kurzgeschichte auf Englisch zu schreiben.

3. What learning support do I get?

You will have access to all of the online lessons.You will also have access to a community chat where you can ask questions. Your instructor will try to answer within a day or two. Due to the style of the course one-on-one tutoring is not currently possible. 


4. How long does the course take?

It takes about 5-6 hours to complete the lessons. Your practical project can take anywhere from a few hours to several days. It’s up to you and the idea you have.

Es dauert etwa 5-6 Stunden, um alle Lektionen abzuschließen. Das praktische Projekt kann anschließend zwischen einigen Stunden und mehreren Tagen dauern. Es liegt an Ihnen (bzw. Ihrem Kind) und der Idee, die umgesetzt werden soll.


5. What materials / equipment do I need?

For the Filmmaking Course you will need a smartphone and a simple paper journal. A computer or tablet is helpful but not required. For the Creative Writing Course you will need one device with an internet connection i.e. smartphone, tablet or computer and a paper journal. A computer with a text program is recommended but not required. 

Welche Materialien/Ausrüstung wird benötigt? 

Für den Filmmaking-Kurs wird ein Smartphone und ein einfaches Papier-Notizbuch benötigt.  Die Verwendung eines Tablets oder Computers wird, wenn möglich, empfohlen.

Für den Creative Writing-Kurs wird ein Gerät mit InterACT-Zugang und ein Papier-Notizbuch benötigt. Wenn möglich, wird die Verwendung eines Computers mit einem Textprogramm empfohlen.

6. How good does my English have to be?

The Filmmaking Course is suitable for grades 5-13. The Creative Writing Course for grades 7+. Although the course attempts to use simple language and provide translation where possible,  some younger learners (grades 5-6) who are only beginning with English may need support from a parent or sibling with more advanced English. The courses are not suitable for younger learners.

Wie gut muss mein Englisch sein? 

Der Filmworkshop ist für die Klassen 5-13 geeignet, der Kurs im Kreativen Schreiben für die Klassen 7+. Obwohl der Kurs versucht, eine einfache Sprache zu verwenden und nach Möglichkeit Übersetzungen anzubieten, benötigen einige jüngere Lernende (Klassen 5-6), die erst mit Englisch anfangen, möglicherweise Unterstützung von einem Elternteil oder Geschwisterkind mit fortgeschrittenerem Englisch. Die Kurse sind für jüngere Lernende nicht geeignet.


7. Can I do the course in a group or with my class?

Yes, school classes or groups of friends are welcome to participate. For school classes please contact us here for a special offer. For groups of individuals each of you will need to register separately. However, you may collaborate on your final projects together.

Kann ich den Kurs in einer Gruppe oder mit meiner Klasse machen? 

Ja, Schulklassen oder Gruppen von Freund*innen sind herzlich willkommen. Für Schulklassen kontaktieren Sie uns bitte über unsere Kontaktseite hier für ein spezielles Angebot. Für Gruppen von Einzelpersonen muss sich jede Person separat anmelden. Sie können jedoch gemeinsam an Ihren Abschlussprojekten arbeiten.  

8. COVID-19

The courses can be completed from home and by yourself. If you work with others you must follow all current regulations and laws relating to COVID-19 and social distancing. Be safe and don’t take any risks. If you want to work with friends you can definitely collaborate digitally even if you’re not able to be physically together. Get creative but more importantly be safe!

Die Kurse können von zu Hause selbstständig absolviert werden. Wenn mit anderen zusammengearbeitet wird, müssen alle geltenden Vorschriften und Gesetze in Bezug auf COVID-19 und der vorgeschriebene Abstand voneinander befolgt werden. Bleiben Sie auf der sicheren Seite und gehen Sie keine Risiken ein. Wenn Sie mit Freund*innen arbeiten möchten, können Sie auf jeden Fall digital zusammenarbeiten, auch wenn Sie nicht in der Lage sind, physisch zusammen zu sein. Seien Sie kreativ, aber noch wichtiger: Passen Sie auf sich auf!

 

9. Are there deadlines to complete the course?

If you are taking the course on your own there are no deadlines. If you are part of a class or school project your teachers will tell you the due date. BUT there are deadlines to enter your films and stories in the festivals check the website for more details about festival deadlines. There will be multiple festivals so if you missed the first one don’t worry another is coming.

Gibt es Fristen für den Abschluss des Kurses? 

Wenn der Kurs alleine absolviert wird, gibt es keine Fristen. Wenn er als Teil eines Klassen- oder Schulprojekts durchgeführt wird, teilen Ihre Lehrer*innen den Abgabetermin mit. ABER es gibt Abgabetermine für die Festival-Einreichungen der Filme und Kurzgeschichten. Weitere Einzelheiten zu den Abgabeterminen des Festivals finden Sie auf unserer Website. Es wird mehrere Festivals geben, wenn Sie also das erste verpasst haben, können Sie am nachfolgenden teilnehmen. 



10. Do I have to share my story or film online?

No, it’s your choice to share your work in our film festival and creative writing festival. If you do, you have the chance to win awards and prizes. But if you don’t want to, no problem.

Muss ich meine Geschichte oder meinen Film online zur Verfügung stellen? 

Nein, es ist Ihre Entscheidung, Ihre Arbeit in unserem Filmfestival und Festival für kreatives Schreiben zu zeigen. Wenn Sie das tun, haben Sie die Chance, Preise und Auszeichnungen zu gewinnen. Aber wenn Sie das nicht wollen, ist das kein Problem.


11. Photo release

If you want to enter your film in the film festival then everyone shown in that film must sign a photo release form. If the performers are under 18 years of age they will need the form signed by their parents or caretaker. We will provide this form automatically at the end of the course where it can be easily signed online by the responsible adult. The videos will only be shown and shared on InterACT English’s various platforms and perhaps with some select sponsors. This will be outlined in detail in the form.

Wenn der Film beim Filmfestival angemeldet werden soll, müssen alle Personen, die in diesem Film gezeigt werden, ein Fotofreigabeformular unterschreiben. Wenn die Darsteller*innen unter 18 Jahre alt sind, benötigen wir das Formular mit der Unterschrift der Eltern bzw. Eines Erziehungsberechtigten. Wir stellen das Formular automatisch am Ende des Kurses zur Verfügung, wo es vom verantwortlichen Erwachsenen einfach online unterschrieben werden kann. Die Videos werden im Anschluss ausschließlich auf den verschiedenen Plattformen von InterACT English und eventuell einigen ausgewählten Sponsor*innen gezeigt und geteilt. Dies wird im Formular noch einmal ausführlich beschrieben.

12. What about your other English Projects? (English Project Weeks, Projects Days, Classtrips)

Of course, we still offer all of our regular (in-person) programs. You can find more about them on our website. If your school or class is interested in booking a project with us, please get in touch. Beginning in August, we will be offering three types of English programs. Online Courses, Blended Learning (small groups + digital course work), in-person projects. By doing this we will have suitable programs for any scenario we might encounter during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Was ist mit den anderen Englischprojekten? (Englische Projektwochen, Projekttage, Klassenfahrten...)


Natürlich bieten wir nach wie vor alle unsere regulären (vor Ort-) Programme an. Mehr dazu finden Sie auf unserer Website. Wenn Ihre Schule oder Klasse daran interessiert ist, ein Projekt bei uns zu buchen, setzen Sie sich bitte mit uns in Verbindung. Ab August 2020 werden wir drei Arten von Englischprogrammen anbieten. Online-Kurse, Blended Learning (Arbeit vor Ort in Kleingruppen in Verbindung mit digitaler Kursarbeit) und persönliche Projekte. Auf diese Weise werden wir für jedes Szenario, dem wir noch während der Covid-19-Pandemie begegnen könnten, ein geeignetes Programm zur Verfügung haben. 13. Why does the course cost money?

We’re a non-profit organization but we still have costs like all businesses. We have to pay our team, and bills and also make great content like the courses you’ll find here. You help us to do that when you pay for a course. We really appreciate your support and promise to put your money to good work.

Wir sind eine gemeinnützige Organisation, aber wie alle Unternehmen haben wir trotzdem Kosten. Wir müssen unser Team und unsere Rechnungen bezahlen und auch tolle Inhalte kreieren, wie die Kurse, die Sie hier finden. Sie helfen uns dabei, indem Sie für einen Kurs bezahlen. If you are signing up as an individual, we accept Paypal, bank transfer, and credit cards 

If you are a school teacher registering a class, we will first send you a non-binding offer. Once you accept the offer we will send you an invoice and you can pay with a bank transfer.
