Frequently Asked Questions

1. Hey InterACT! Why Online Courses?

We’re a non-profit organization that teaches English through the arts. For ten years we’ve been bringing English native speakers to schools across Europe to work with young people on language and creative projects. Currently due to Covid-19 it’s difficult to do this. So, we made these courses as a way to continue bringing our curriculum to English learners.

2. How does the online course work?

The course is built as a series of reading blocks, tutorial videos, review, tasks and a resource section. For the final assignment, students will use the skills they learn to make their own film or write a short story in English.

3. What learning support do I get?

You will have access to all of the online lessons and videos. The courses are designed in a way that allows students to progress through the content at their own pace following the structure of the course we have designed. You will also have access to technical support. Please allow 2-3 days for us to answer any technical questions or resolve any problems.

4. How long does the course take?

It takes about 7-10 hours to complete the lessons. The practical project can take anywhere from a few hours to several days. It’s up to the students, the ideas they have and how much time they would like to invest in their project.

5. What materials / equipment do students need?

For the Filmmaking Course students will need a smartphone and a simple paper journal. A computer or tablet is helpful but not required. For the Creative Writing Course students will need one device with an internet connection i.e. smartphone, tablet or computer and a paper journal. A computer with a text program is recommended but not required.

6. How good does my students English have to be?

The Filmmaking Course is suitable for grades 5-13. The Creative Writing Course for grades 7+. Although the courses attempts to use simple language,  some younger learners (grades 5-6) who are only beginning with English may need support from a parent or sibling with more advanced English. The courses are not suitable for younger learners. We recommend the class teacher carefully review the course material prior to starting to check if it is appropriate for the students English level.

7. Is the course for individuals or classes?

That is entirely up to you. You are free to share the licenses with only interested students, or with your classes or even entire grade levels or schools. Just let us know how many licenses you would like to have.

8. COVID-19

The courses can be completed from home or in a media classroom. Please follow your schools and governments most current regulations and laws relating to COVID-19 and social distancing. Be safe and don’t take any risks. If you want students can definitely collaborate digitally even if they’re not able to be physically together. Get creative but more importantly be safe!

9. Are there deadlines to complete the course?

If you are taking the course on your own there are no deadlines. BUT there are deadlines for students to enter your films and stories in the festivals check the website for more details about festival deadlines. There will be multiple festivals so if you missed the first one don’t worry another is coming.

10. Do students have to share their story or film online?

No, it’s their choice to share their work in our film festival and creative writing festival. If they do, they have the chance to win awards and prizes. But if they don’t want to, no problem.

11. Photo release

If students want to enter thei film in the film festival then everyone shown in that film must sign a photo release form. If the performers are under 18 years of age they will need the form signed by their parents or caretaker. We will provide this form automatically at the end of the course where it can be easily signed online by the responsible adult. The videos will only be shown and shared on InterACT English’s various platforms and perhaps with some select sponsors. This will be outlined in detail in the form.

12. What about your other English Projects? (English Project Weeks, Projects Days, Classtrips)

Of course, we still offer all of our regular (in-person) programs like English Project Weeks, Workshops, and Professional Development training for teachers. You can find more about our work on our website. If your school or class is interested in booking a project with us, please get in touch.
